The wine estate Quinta da Capela has a tradition of wine growing since 1772, when the first vines were planted on the property. The vineyards are situated in the Douro valley, recognised as the cradle of some of the finest wines in the world, where optimal conditions for cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties, such as the traditional Portuguese grapes Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, are available.
Invigorated by the intense sun and rich sap, the grapes took shape and the best varieties perfected themselves.
Each season they are renewed by a process of natural selection in which man intervenes with respect, guided by knowledge and time.
When the time is right and the vines reach the height of the their colour and taste, the grapes are picked by experienced hands and laid in stone tanks, where they are trodden into wine.
The rigours of instinct are thus joined by the mastery of science to achieve the only formula capable of creating the aromas and the tastes, the colours and the textures.
Elsewhere, fire shapes the wood that cold water will transform into barrels and fuses the grains of sand that the breath from steady mouths will sculpt into glass.
Nestled in a bottle designed to preserve its qualities, the wine makes its last journey.
Since 1998, producing Douro Wines, Jose Carlos Monteiro Pinto has recognized in the most important international wine competitions, with some rewards.
